چکیده

An essential parameter of physical, propagation based MIMO channel models is the number of multipath clusters. In this paper we determine the total number of clusters and the number of dominant clusters in the angle-of-arrival/angle-of-departure domain based on comprehensive indoor MIMO measurements at 5.2 GHz in a cluttered office environment. For the dominant multipath clusters we find a mean number of 7.6 with a standard deviation of 2.4, whereas the total number of clusters varies strongly even within a single room of the environment. Introduction: The use of multiple antennas at both link ends (MIMO) in wireless communications promises high spectral efficiency and reliability. Accurate channel models are required for proper design of signal processing algorithms. One important parameter is the number of (dominant) multipath clusters. There are various definitions of “clusters” (e.g. [1]). The most accurate definition would be a group of multi-path components with similar angle-of-arrival (AoA), angle-of-departure (AoD), and delay. As

Performance of Beamforming and Mimo Technique in an Indoor Ricean Clustering Channel

In this paper, we present a hybrid indoor MIMO channel model for predicting the performance of multiple-element antenna system. The model incorporates the wave clustering phenomena and combines the statistical characteristics of clusters with deterministic ray tracing method. The capacity of the MIMO channel is expressed as a function of spatial correlation at both the transmitter and the recei...

Indoor Multipath Characterization for MIMO Wireless Communications

The achievable linear increase in multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) capacity is conditioned on “sufficientlyrich multipath” presenting in a wireless channel. Thus, the characterization of the resolvable multipaths in an indoor environment dictates the obtainable MIMO capacity at a certain SNR level. In this paper, the statistic relationship between the characteristics of multipaths and the p...

Statistical Analysis of Multipath Clustering in an Indoor Office Environment

In this paper, a parametric directional-based MIMO channel model is presented which takes multipath clustering into account. The directional propagation path parameters include azimuth of arrival (AoA), azimuth of departure (AoD), delay, and power. MIMO measurements are carried out in an indoor office environment using the virtual antenna array method with a vector network analyzer. Propagation...

Indoor MIMO Measurements at 2.55 and 5.25 GHz – a Comparison of Temporal and Angular Characteristics

Indoor MIMO measurements in a laboratory environment, covering both line-of-sight (LoS) and obstructed lineof-sight (OLoS), are reported. Comparison of data taken at 2.55 and 5.25 GHz reveal subtle differences in temporal and angular characteristics. Multipath appears in clusters, which can be attributed to specific scattering/reflection areas in the environment.

Parameterizing Geometry-based Stochastic Mimo Channel Models from Measurements Using Correlated Clusters

Geometry-based stochastic MIMO channel models using the concept of multipath clusters are advantageous to model the spatial structure of the channel accurately and in a intuitive manner. However, they are difficult to parameterize. This becomes evident in current (quasi-)standard models, which provide default parameters to cover the environments of interest, yet the model fit is not always conv...
